Free State Resource Centre now Online!

I-TECH South Africa conceptualised and funded the Resource Centre (RC) for the Free State Regional Training Centre. Situated in the Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein, the resource centre has a diverse collection of HIV and AIDS information materials, including more than 200 books, manuals, journals, newsletters and DVDs. The RC also offers internet services to the visitors. The centre was initially conceptualized to cater to health care professionals (primarily doctors and nurses), but with the new resources it can now reach a wider variety of users. Materials are now available to assist support groups, NGOs and CBOs, students and scholars, researchers, health institutions, and government workers.
I-TECH also developed the Online Resource Centre website (screen shot) which will serve as a knowledge portal for health care professionals in Free State. It will be a "one-stop shop" for resources, toolkits, publications, trainings, discussions, and news items on HIV/AIDS in Free State.
The Online Resource Centre has been developed so that it can be expanded in various phases to include features for active collation and exchange of resources. Topics include insight and materials on HIV/AIDS, medicine, research, and other topics from people working in the field, in organizations, with government departments, and with donors.
Further, lessons learned in developing this new site will provide a useful prototype for future projects. Based on the success of the Free State model, I-TECH South Africa also plans to replicate the model in other provinces in near future
