Centre for the Study of AIDS 
The Centre for the Study of AIDS was established in 1999, in the first instance in response to the call by then Deputy President, Mbeki for a Partnership Against AIDS as well as, secondly, with the aim of mainstreaming HIV/AIDS through all the activities of the University of Pretoria.

Health Economics & HIV/AIDS Research Division (HEARD)
HEARD was established in 1998 as a research and teaching organisation to: 1. Undertake academic and applied research into the economic, development and social impacts of HIV/AIDS. 2. Undertake academic teaching activities concerned with health economics and HIV/AIDS. 3. Provide training workshops for senior professionals concerned with planning for the impacts of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. 4. Organise conferences and symposia to identify ideas and strategies and review interventions to deal with the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) is a dynamic, focused health service provider of cost-effective and professional laboratory medicine through competent, qualified professionals and state-of-the-art technology, supported by academic and internationally recognised research, training and product development to maximise healthcare delivery in South Africa. The NHLS is the largest diagnostic pathology service in South Africa with the responsibility of supporting the National and Provincial Department of Health in the delivery of healthcare. The NHLS provides laboratory and related public health services to over 80% of the population through a national network laboratories.
